Surah al-Kafirun is called the 'Declaration of Disavowal' — a clear, firm and respectful statement of Islam's monotheism and of the irreconcilable difference between worship of Allah and worship of other than Allah. The Prophet ﷺ called it equal to a quarter of the Quran.

Virtues & Benefits

-   Equal to a quarter of the Quran in reward (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2894).
-   A declaration that frees the heart from compromise in matters of worship.
-   'Whoever recites it will be free of shirk.' (Reported in various sources)

When to read

-   Recited in the second rak'ah of the two Sunnah rak'ahs before Fajr.
-   Recited before sleeping: the Prophet ﷺ recited it before bed (Abu Dawud 5055).
-   Recited to renew clarity of intention and tawhid (monotheism).

قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ

Qul ya ayyuha l-kafirun

Say, 'O disbelievers,'

لَا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ

La a'budu ma ta'budun

I do not worship what you worship.

3

وَلَا أَنتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ

Wa la antum 'abiduna ma a'bud

Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.

4

وَلَا أَنَا عَابِدٌ مَّا عَبَدتُّمْ

Wa la ana 'abidun ma 'abadtum

Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship.

5

وَلَا أَنتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ

Wa la antum 'abiduna ma a'bud

Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship.

6

لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ

Lakum dinukum wa liya din

For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.
