Dua for Leaving the Mosque
When leaving the mosque, the Prophet ﷺ taught a specific supplication asking Allah for His bounty. The believer leaves the house of Allah and enters the world, so this dua asks for protection and provision in what lies ahead.
بِسْمِ اللهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِ اللهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
Transliteration
Bismillāh, wa-ṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā rasūlillāh. Allāhumma innī asʾaluka min faḍlik.
Translation
In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty.
Source: Sahih Muslim 713, narrated by Abu Humaid or Abu Usayd (RA)
When to recite
- Upon leaving any mosque, with the left foot first.
- Said quietly immediately upon stepping out.
Virtues & Benefits
- The left foot leading out mirrors entering with the right — the Sunnah in all acts is to begin with the right for honourable actions.
- Asks for fadl (Allah's bounty and grace) — appropriate for re-entering worldly life.
- Keeps the believer connected to Allah even as they leave His house.
